Director of Cooking ProgramsIn addition to her extensive background as a private chef and caterer, Carla brings her life experience as a mother, world traveler and healthy eating advocate to Gymtime's cooking programs, which she has overseen for the past 6 years.
Carla majored in French at Stanford University and went on to earn a degree in Culinary Arts at the acclaimed Institute of Culinary Education, one of the country's most highly regarded cooking schools.
Born and raised in Hawaii, Carla has also lived in Australia, Africa and Europe. Her broad background with global cultures is evident in her diverse cooking curriculum, which gives our young chefs the opportunity to work with fun, healthy, and unique ingredients, ranging from edamame to couscous.
Her carefully structured classes help students expand their palates and learn about healthy eating, but also teach basic math and science skills, as well as develop fine motor skills, coordination, focus, and of course—patience.
“Cooking develops all of the senses and encompasses so many of the skills we use in everyday life. Exploring the world of food expands a child's horizons by using different textures, tastes, colors and shapes. They hone their fine motor skills and apply basic math and science tools to achieve tasty, tangible results.”
